Antonio Crossed a Line in the Chicago P.D. Finale and Now Intelligence Is Screwed

One Chicago: Behind the Scenes

(Fair warning that this post will contain spoilers from Chicago P.D.'s midseason finale, titled "Descent." Read at your own risks. Now hit it.)

"What the hell just happened?" Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) blurts out at the end of Chicago P.D.'s gripping midseason finale, asking the very thing we're all wondering. What exactly did we just witness?

Antonio (Jon Seda) delivered one mother of a shocker when he shoved the guy who kidnapped his daughter out of a window and watched him fall to his death as a stunned Ruzek and Voight (Jason Beghe) looked on. That impulsive decision now leaves Intelligence in one hell of a bind and the distant sirens in the background make it clear that they have very little time to cover this up, especially since Antonio still has traces of drugs in his system. The crew is, in a word, screwed. Royally.

Discover your new favorite show: Watch This Now!

We all know Voight is pretty adept at making his team's various indiscretions disappear into the void but this feels like a completely different beast. Could Antonio's deadly choice be the thing that finally breaks the sergeant? According to showrunner Rick Eid, maybe not.

"I would never wanna say Voight has bitten off more than he can chew but it's a difficult situation and it's not gonna go the way you think it's gonna go in the [winter premiere]," he told TV Guide.

Still, Antonio put his team in a pretty rough spot. An addiction to oxycodone is a tough habit to kick and given that this is an election year, the crew shouldn't expect department superintendent Brennan to provide any support from above. If Antonio expects to make it through this debacle in one piece, he'll need the entire team on his side including Ruzek who hasn't seen eye-to-eye with him this season.

"You'll see if Ruzek is a guy who holds grudges, if Ruzek is a guy that believes in a code," Eid said of the intelligence detective. "You'll see what Adam Ruzek's all about in this moment."

It's an issue that will be dealt with immediately when P.D. returns in January. While we don't know how the crew will handle the situation, Rick says that whatever they decide may come back to haunt them later on. "It's a messy situation where there's no perfect solution," he teased.

See how it all turns out when new episodes of Chicago P.D. arrive in January 2019 on NBC.

Supernatural Boss Hints at 'Dangers' to MIA Dean, Teases Sam and Cas' Search

Posted by [email protected] on Comments comments (0)

When Supernatural returns for Season 14 this Thursday (The CW, 8/7c), the archangel Michael will be calling the shots as he takes possession of Dean’s body. But the real danger will come when the hunter eventually regains control, executive producer Andrew Dabb tells TVLine.

For the time being, however, the elder Winchester is off the canvas, forcing his brother Sam and pal Castiel to go to extreme measures in order to find Michael.

Below, Dabb previews the peril for Dean in the new season and the quest to rescue him, as well as the state of Heaven and Hell. (The EP also talks here about what it’s like to have episodes without — gasp! — Dean Winchester in them.)

Supernatural RecapTVLINE | Are there any specific threats or dangers to Dean while Michael is driving the car, so to speak?
The threats to Dean are not physical, necessarily. He’s kind of locked away, and he’s a passenger in this thing. The dangers for him are more when Dean comes out of this, or when he’s rescued from this. What is going to be the aftereffect of it? For our characters, especially our main characters, everything they go through, from stubbing their toe to dying for the 34th time, it’s less about the event, [and] more about how it affects them moving forward. That’s something Dean’s going to be struggling with as our season progresses.

TVLINE | How are Sam and Cas and Mary coping in Dean’s absence?
They’re all coping in their own ways. For Sam, obviously, he’s extremely driven to find Dean. He’s mobilized everyone he can think of, including the Apocalypse World hunters, to do this. Cas is very much the same way. Cas is very much like, “We have to find him.” He’s going to certain people, possibly with black eyes, who he would not normally contact, but he’s looking for their help to find Dean. For Mary, she is worried, as you would assume. The difference is that Sam, ultimately, and even Cas to a degree, are a little pessimistic. They’re not sure if it’s going to work out. Mary is optimistic, but sometimes, that optimism can be very annoying. But everybody wants the same thing, which is to bring Dean back.

Supernatural Season 14

TVLINE | Are they all on the same page in terms of how to go about the Michael situation and rescuing Dean? Or is there some conflict?
There is a little bit of conflict, but at the end of the day, the first step is [to] find him, basically. There’s a device they used back in Season 12 that forced Lucifer out of the president, and so there are some ideas like, “Well, if we can find that device, and we can get Michael in a room, maybe we could use that to force Michael out of Dean and save Dean.”

The other plan that’s hanging out there is difficult because, as of right now, there’s really nothing in our world that can hurt Michael, as far as we know. There’s a little bit of discussion of, “Are we going to save Dean? Are we going to kill Michael?” Those words are not the same thing, and Michael being loose in this world is a real danger. So at the end of the day, they all want to save Dean, but if it came down to it, if Dean couldn’t be saved and the only way to stop Michael was to kill Dean in the process, even Dean Winchester would say, “Take that deal,” because you’re saving the world.

Supernatural JackTVLINE | Jack doesn’t have his powers, so how is he occupying his time? Can he still go on hunts?
Jack, certainly early in the season, is very much in what I’ll call the learning stage. He learned a little bit last year in terms of putting together clues and things like that. This year, with the help of Bobby specifically, he’s learning how to throw a punch, how to decapitate a vampire. It’s a learning process for him.

TVLINE | With Lucifer dead, what does that mean for Heaven and Hell? Is there a power vacuum?
Heaven is running on fumes, basically. There are a handful of angels up there, just trying to hold everything together. Hell is a different story. We’re going to get a really good preview of what’s going on in Hell, actually, in the first episode.

TVLINE | Is Cas going to get involved in the Heaven situation, trying to fix things up there?
Early on, Cas’ focus is on Dean, and also, I don’t know that anyone has a solution to that problem. It’s definitely something we’re going to focus on as the season goes forward, but it’s not the most pressing concern. Naomi, the people up there, kind of have it handled right now. That’s not always going to be the case, but for right now, they’re actually in pretty good shape.

Apple Low-Key Tries To Lure Old People To Buy New Watch Series 4

Posted by [email protected] on Comments comments (0)

Tech giant Apple is going after a whole new demographic – our grandparents. The powerhouse has officially announced a new Apple Watch Series 4 potentially aimed at older people.

According to Apple, one key feature to the new Apple Watch Series 4 is its ability to save lives.

Apple’s COO Jeff Williams introduced a number of new features Wednesday for the company’s Apple Watch Series 4, but none more fascinating than its new fall detection and electrocardiogram technology … which could potentially save lives. Williams says the new watch can detect when you’ve taken a hard fall, and automatically call emergency services if you don’t respond to the alert. It’ll also reach out to your emergency contacts. Not just that … but the watch’s new ECG feature measures heart rate and will let you know if anything is irregular or potentially dangerous. (TMZ)

According to Apple, the new series is aimed at keeping people more active and workout-focused.

The largest Apple Watch display yet. A new electrical heart sensor. A Digital Crown with haptic feedback. New workouts. Advanced running features. And enhanced cellular connectivity. Introducing Apple Watch Series 4. Fundamentally redesigned and re-engineered to help you stay even more active, healthy, and connected. (Apple)

DWTS' Juan Pablo Di Pace on Shocking Elimination: 'We Were Bringing Art to the Show' — Plus: Who Should Win?

Posted by [email protected] on Comments comments (0)

The Dancing With the Stars ballroom was a sea of dropped jaws on Monday night, after Season 27 frontrunner Juan Pablo Di Pace failed to score a spot in the Nov. 19 finale. (When your elimination inspires a Change.org petition, you know you’re doing something right.)

TVLine spoke with the Fuller House actor after his surprising ouster, and he admitted the elimination was “heartbreaking,” despite being touched by the “outpouring of love and outrage and anger” from fans.

“People are so amazing, and the fans are so vocal, so I’m good. I’m really good,” Di Pace told us. “But I was still shocked and sad to lose. For me, it’s a talent and a love for dance competition. It’s heartbreaking when you work your ass off.”

In order to determine who goes home each week, Dancing With the Stars combines the judges’ scores (which can reach a maximum of 30 points) with votes from the home audience. But the current system weighs viewers’ votes more heavily, which means even a well-scored contestant like Di Pace can be sent packing if he doesn’t get enough support from the audience. In fact, Di Pace was sent home even after scoring perfect 30s for both of Monday’s performances.

DWTS Juan Pablo Eliminated“It’s like a chess game. Every moment, every interview, every dance, every comment from a judge could either hinder you or get you to the next week,” Di Pace said. “We knew we weren’t the ones with millions of fans. We were the ones with a lot of hard work and passion and talent. So I wasn’t sure I was going through.”

On the heels of Di Pace’s elimination, incensed fans are calling for changes to the voting system; some have even suggested the introduction of a “judges’ save,” through which Carrie Ann Inaba, Len Goodman and Bruno Tonioli can spare a couple that would otherwise be booted. (And this isn’t the first time such an idea has been posed: Glee alum Heather Morris was also prematurely eliminated from Season 24, which sparked a similar discussion about changes to the voting.)

“The show’s been going on for 27 seasons, and looking at the thousands of comments I’ve got, people aren’t happy with the system. So, yeah, 27 seasons later, maybe it is time for a refresh, a little nip and tuck,” Di Pace offered. “Maybe instead of being completely a popularity contest, it could actually be more of a skill contest. But who am I to say? I think the fans’ outrage will probably work for something.”

Di Pace and partner Cheryl Burke have been invited to reprise their Argentine tango on Monday’s season finale — and even though “it’s not about the trophy” for Di Pace, he regrets that his partnership with Burke had to come to an early end.

“If I’m going to be objective, we were the ones bringing pieces of art to the show. We were bringing really good, amazing pieces,” he said. “For that reason alone — the fact that we didn’t get to perform one last freestyle, which was going to be out of this world — I’m sad.” (With reporting by Andy Swift)

‘I fucking hate you!’: Iggy Pop goes apeshit during combative (and amazing) 2003 Stooges show

Handbill

On April 27th, 2003, a reunited Stooges played at Coachella, marking the first time in nearly 30 years Iggy Pop had performed with the Asheton brothers. It went so well that what was supposed to be a one-off gig turned out to be just the beginning. For the next five-plus years, the Stooges toured the world over, playing in front of adoring crowds—for the most part. Six months after the Coachella date, the band had another festival appearance, but instead of encountering their usual audience—fans thrilled to be seeing the Stooges—the group was met with indifference and hostility. This REALLY pissed off Iggy, and brought out the fighting spirit in him. The Stooges’ set that evening recalled the confrontational shows of the past, and turned out to be one of the most memorable gigs this version of the band ever did.

In 2003, the annual Voodoo Music Experience festival was held at City Park in New Orleans from October 31st-November 2nd. The lineup was a mix of jam bands, rap acts, and groups that were popular on mainstream rock radio at the time. Plus, the Stooges.

Stooges

The Stooges’ November 1st performance was scheduled between nu metal band Staind and the headlining act, Marilyn Manson. At the conclusion of Staind’s set, a good chunk of the young crowd—who we have to presume had never heard of the Stooges—left to check out another one of the fest’s stages, while most of those that remained were there to hold their ground for Marilyn Manson. When an MC came out and hyped the upcoming Stooges set, there was faint applause, but the kids went crazy when he mentioned Marilyn Manson.

The Stooges hit the stage at 8:15 pm.

Stooges 1
A photo taken by one of the few Stooges fans in attendance.

The first song is their usual set opener, “Loose,” from the second Stooges album, Fun House—one of the greatest records EVER MADE—and the crowd just stands and stares. Iggy immediately recognizes that the audience doesn’t care, and he becomes combative. Throughout the show, Pop hurls a range of insults at the apathetic kids—including a guy he can clearly see is yawning. The best put-down of the night: “You suck like the bands you like.” But there are moments when Iggy’s doing his best to stay positive; at one point, he invites the audience to come on stage, though just one dude takes him up on it. Other times, as he unleashes on the dum dums in attendance, the Ig’s rage is palpable.

Stooges 2

It turned out to be a fantastic performance, despite—no, scratch that—*because* of the aloof crowd, which spurred the band on. It’s the closest a reunited Stooges would ever get to the days of Metallic KO.

Flippin the bird

The band:

Iggy Pop – Vocals
Ron Asheton – Guitar
Scott Asheton – Drums
Mike Watt – Bass
Steve Mackay – Saxophone

This lineup lasted from the Coachella gig until Ron Asheton’s unexpected death in 2009.

Stooges 3

Lucky for us, a superb-sounding tape of this festival appearance by the Stooges exists, and it’s just been uploaded to YouTube.

The setlist:

01. Loose
02. Down on the Street
03. 1969
04. I Wanna Be Your Dog
05. T.V. Eye
05. Dirt
06. Real Cool Time
07. No Fun
07. 1970
08. Fun House
09. Skull Ring
10. I Wanna Be Your Dog (again)

From what I gather, the Stooges’ entire set was professionally filmed, and at least one clip has circulated online, but I couldn’t find any footage currently streaming on the web. So instead we’ll leave you with video of the first four songs from Coachella.

Joy As an Act of Resistance by Idles

Posted by [email protected] on Comments comments (0)

Idles won’t be for everybody: this isn’t good-time, aspirational, radio-friendly pop. But for anyone in need of music that articulates their concerns or helps them to work through their troubles--or anyone who simply appreciates blistering, intelligent punk--they might just be Britain’s most necessary band.
